When Louis Vuitton’s Archlight sneaker debuted last October, people didn’t quite know what to think. But, combining the best of both futurism and ugliness, Nicolas Ghesquière’s take on the chunky sneaker trend soon rose in popularity to be seen on everyone from Hailey Baldwin to Jaden Smith.

Now, all attention has turned to the latest iteration of the shoe. On Monday, Ghesquière swept buyers, editors and celebrities to the South of France for a three-day experience in the name of Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2019 show. Far from the brand’s usual exotic locales, the collection’s debut was set in the art-covered Fondation Maeght.

With the clothes bopping between decades, it was hard to focus on what was going on down below. Luckily for the models, everyone was dressed in flats with the Archlight appearing once again. This time around, the sneakers had been transformed into boot hybrids.

All-gold metallic over-the-knee versions appeared alongside eccentric 70’s printed styles. For those who are fainter of heart, wavy-soled ankle boots will be the best route to go down.

Ghesquière said that the show was all “about eccentricity,” telling WWD: “It’s about how an individual can have their own proper style and can start a movement.” The collection certainly did. Flitting between hippie-esque peasant blouses, excess straight from the 80’s and everyone’s favorite 90’s slip dresses, the clothes appeared to form part of a new uniform; one which favored experimentation (just look at the lab goggles) over normality.

And who could miss the collaboration between the Parisian fashion house and legendary stylist Grace Coddington? The flame-haired icon sat front row to watch her iconic animal illustrations saunter past on bags and other accessories. Drawings of her own two cats were included along with Ghesquière’s two pet dogs, Léon and Achille.

There’s no word yet when the space age Archlights will be released. But keep an eye out towards the end of the year.
