If you can’t deal with any more Big Sneaker Energy, then you might want to look away now. Why? Because the chunky sneaker trend is still going strong with Puma’s latest women’s release.

First announced in June, the Thunder Desert is finally coming next month. Following on from the brand’s Thunder Spectra and Thunder Electric silhouettes, everything about this sneaker is oversized from the thick bouncy-looking sole to the mixed fabric upper which combines mesh, leather and suede.

The model has drawn comparisons to Balenciaga’s immensely popular Triple S but is decidedly more neutral in color. Its two shades—Natural Vachetta and Smoke Green—are said to mimic the appearance of the desert at dusk.

With the material combination allowing for retro-style color blocking, the Thunder Desert has a similar vintage feel to other dad sneakers but is perfect for those looking for something a little more subtle.

Is this a sign that understatement is set to be the next big thing? Or will luxury brands’ in-your-face styles continue to prevail? Puma’s sales figures will soon tell.

The Thunder Desert is set to release on August 2 both online and in Puma Stores and will retail for a modest $155.
